Section Manager, Corporations Environment Health & Safety, Ontario Power Generation
Lisa Beech-Hawley is a Section Manager in Corporate Environment, Health and Safety at Ontario Power Generation (OPG). She is the President of the Business Council on Occupational Health and Safety (BCOHS) and sits on several other employer stakeholder groups which share best practices and interact strategically with senior government leaders to drive improvement in health and safety in workplaces across Ontario including the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB)’s Chair’s Advisory Council, the WSIB COVID-19 Expert Panel and the Canadian Standards Association OHS Strategic Steering Committee.
Lisa has a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and has been a Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist (CCPE) since 2002. As an ergonomist at the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) she supported the accommodation of injured workers in hundreds of workplaces before moving to OPG where she has led the MSD (musculoskeletal disorder) prevention program and broadened her role to general health and safety strategy, programs and stakeholder engagement, and most recently to Environmental programs.
Lisa considers health and safety to include all aspects of physical and mental wellness and tries to get involved wherever she can contribute to the well-being of others, including volunteering with and supporting her organization’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee, her local hospital, church and community outreach and other charitable organizations.
Lisa has shared the adventure of life with her husband of 31 years and is a proud parent to her young adult son and daughter who are pursuing their passions in careers in music and performing arts. She loves watching the Toronto Raptors, walking and running, exploring all kinds of healthy practices – including recently Tapping and QiGong – and spending time with family and friends at the family cottage on Lake Simcoe.
